KURWASSERMUSIK – Sound installation in three aquariums

What does healing water sound like? The association Bagni Popolari presents at the Inhalatorium on the Baden Limmat promenade the exhibition «KURWASSERMUSIK», an interactive sound installation exploring the question: What does healing water sound like? What sound is created when geological, medical, and spiritual data come together? With this question, the group «Wellenbad» from Germany delves into the world of spa treatments and healing waters. Using aquariums, sensors, and sound transducers, they create a playground at the Inhalatorium that invites listening and interactive music-making with sound. For the installation, sound artists Joseph Baader and Nathalie Brum transform data from geology, spiritual practices, and traditional medicine into sounds that make water vibrate and ring, responding to visitors of the exhibition. The sources they draw from range from historical representations of Baden's topography to currently trending 'healing frequencies'. The group Wellenbad: Since 2023, the German artist collective «Wellenbad» has been producing music and sound installations for urban swimming pools. Using special speakers, they make water, glass panes, and aquariums resonate. Wellness and research, art music, and water sports intertwine. Bagni Popolari: The association «Bagni Popolari» is a coalition of volunteers passionate about culture and thermal water. Since the closure of the old Baden thermal bath in 2012, the association has been committed to bath culture and the broad use of Baden's thermal waters. Bagni Popolari operates temporary thermal pools on various occasions, often accompanied by art interventions, exhibitions, and performances. The association also designed the two popular hot springs in Baden and Ennetbaden, two permanent, publicly accessible thermal springs. In recent years, the association has revived the bath at Raben with exhibitions, readings, concerts, and performances—always in conjunction with the thermal bath operation. The «Bagni Popolari» has collaborated with the «Historical Museum Baden», the «Baths Association», researchers, and festivals.
