Description
The Langmatt Museum presents the first institutional solo exhibition of the French artist Emmanuelle Castellan (*1976 in Aurillac, FR), who lives in Berlin, in Switzerland. She has been working in the field of painting and drawing for more than 25 years, often also with site-specific, painterly installations. After professorships in Toulouse (2012 to 2019) and Strasbourg (2019 to 2026), Emmanuelle Castellan was appointed in autumn 2026 as a professor of painting and drawing at the renowned Academy of Visual Arts Leipzig. It is one of the most important art academies in Germany. In her solo exhibition, she shows around 25 paintings and eight small-format sculptural models. In this way, the exhibition provides an exemplary insight into her work of recent years. The exhibition takes place on the upper floor of the Langmatt, complemented by five paintings in the historic rooms on the ground floor in dialogue with works from the collection, e.g. by Camille Corot and Pierre-Auguste Renoir. Here it becomes apparent how subtly the delicate painting of Emmanuelle Castellan reflects the enchanted atmosphere of the Langmatt and leads to new perceptions of the historic ensemble. The artist talks with museum director Markus Stegmann about her work. Afterwards, there is an aperitif.
