Once upon a time, on a frosty Three Kings' night, a lonely boy wandered through a desolate land. He was called Krabat. He didn't even know where his name came from. He could no longer remember his mother or father. As if he had never had them. He belonged to those children who must grow up quickly. Only occasionally, as he fell asleep, did he hear gentle whispers and comforts reminiscent of home. He loved to dive into the safety of his own dreams. That night, however, it was close to being forever trapped in their intoxication. Suddenly, the familiar voices dissolved into the powerful tension of something much stronger. A force more powerful than his mother's voice drove his body and mind, until Krabat found himself at an old mill... It is said that everyone should avoid that building. Perhaps it is inhabited by black magic, and one thing is certain: nothing good awaits anyone there. But what choice does the boy have? This production, inspired by a dark fairy tale, was literarily processed in the early 1970s by Liberec native Otfried Preußler, based on an old Lusatian-Sorbian legend. It tells the story of orphaned Krabat, who, on the brink of adulthood, approaches dark forces. At first, these seem like a perfect escape from the hardships of the world. However, as the boy soon learns, magic demands a cruel price, and our hero finds himself in the midst of a totality firmly ruled by an omnipresent, yet unseen Master. The creative team of Vašíček-Kamenická Pokorná-Czech-Čámský, who first met while creating the production of Seven Ravens, continues to adapt well-known fairy tales, in which love ultimately conquers darkness. They do so in a language unique not only to puppet theater but also to detective stories of Hitchcockian nature. Duration: 80 minutes.
