Moderation: Donath Oehri For nearly 40 years, work has been ongoing on the monumental project of the Historical Lexicon of the Principality of Liechtenstein, and since 2018, the lexicon has also been available online. What exactly is involved in creating a lexicon entry? And what criteria must be met for a person or topic to be included in the lexicon?
In 2013, the two-volume book edition was published, and since 2018, the lexicon has been available online as a project of the Liechtenstein Institute and is continuously expanded. How have the questions, topics, and challenges changed over the years? What has remained the same?
These and other questions will be discussed in a conversation between the first editor-in-chief of the HLFL, Arthur Brunhart, and the current editorial member, Cornelius Goop. Furthermore, the discussion will also address the broader question of what history can accomplish today—especially in a small country like Liechtenstein. When does something become history, and why should the past be revisited repeatedly? Which topics are particularly exciting or relevant today? And again: what has remained consistent in historical science over the years? The series of talks is moderated by Donath Oehri. As a community leader, he led the municipality of Gamprin-Bendern for over 24 years, from 1995 to 2019. In this role, he always had a direct connection to the Liechtenstein Institute: during the renovation of the current institute building, he was actively involved as chairman of the construction committee and delivered the opening speech at the building's inauguration in 1997. During his 15 years as a teacher (1980-1995) and subsequent time in office, his skills as a generalist were always in demand. He now brings these attributes to our forum "Cellar Talks," where he will engage with our scientists and researchers in a candid manner, sometimes provocatively and with unexpected questions, to challenge them in a non-academic way.
