At Karel Plíhal's concert, accompanied by the excellent guitarist Petr Fiala, listeners can expect gentle and playful poetry. Karel Plíhal has been one of the greatest joys of Czech songwriting for over 30 years.
He is an original composer, lyricist, and guitarist, economical, reserved, endlessly playful, and also fanatically meticulous. He creates unique lyrics full of poetry, searching for and successfully finding interesting rhymes and word combinations. He then complements them with pleasant melodies in his own effortless style, resulting in songs that soothe rather than energize. The atmosphere of the concert enhances the delicacy of the songs, and Plíhal also recites some of his poetic miniatures. After a forced post-injury break, Plíhal returns to the concert stage with the support of guitarist P. Fiala. Karel Plíhal is a Czech guitarist, singer, composer, lyricist, music director, and arranger. He studied at the Secondary Industrial School of Mechanical Engineering in Olomouc, then worked as a designer, a stoker in the Olomouc theater, and eventually became a songwriter (despite having no formal musical education). He has been playing guitar since he was 15. Initially, he played in underground country-swing bands in Olomouc such as Hučka, Falešní hráči, and Plíharmonyje. His first solo performance was in 1983. Karel Plíhal is a four-time winner of the Porta music festival competition. Gentle and playful poetry, an intimate atmosphere. All presented in the form of intelligently humorous, often maturely self-ironic lyrics or short verses introducing or complementing individual songs. A performance that cannot be imitated. And above all: phenomenal guitar artistry. Plíhal the guitarist is a chapter in itself. One could listen to this self-taught guitarist even in complete silence and never be bored. Waltzes, blues, Latin rhythms, swing, and his typical mood pieces played with unmistakable augmented and diminished major chords – he handles it all with ease and brilliance. Plíhal – this is strong, positive "energy not packed in sugar," but in song, recitation, and play. It is an experience to hear Plíhal from a player or read his verses. However, experiencing the unique atmosphere of his concerts is something else altogether. Warning: THE CONCERT IS NOT SUITABLE FOR CHILDREN UNDER 12!
