Description
In the last subscription concert, the circle closes: back to the classical tradition. With the Quatuor Arod and clarinetist Joe Christoph, two ARD prize winners take the stage, united by youthful freshness and a wealth of tonal colors. The steep rise of the French quartet led to the cinema screen, where that reflected balance of technical mastery and community spirit was captured in a documentary film. Fanny Mendelssohn's string quartet – a powerful female voice of Romanticism – is flanked by Haydn's witty storytelling and finally Brahms' clarinet quintet, one of the most intimate chamber music works ever, a musical amen. Not fireworks, but embers.
Where could Johannes Brahms' clarinet quintet, written in 1885, sound better than in the St. Charles Hall? Here, historical proximity and the last subscription concert come together for an evening in an intimate setting. «Embers & Esprit»
