Description
Usually, Gregor is the first to get up and go to work. He brings money home for the whole family. On the morning the story begins, something is different. Gregor does not get up, does not go to work. He stays in bed. Mother, father, and sister hear strange noises from Gregor’s room. Gregor has transformed. Mother, father, and sister do not know what to do. The transformed Gregor has no place in their lives. He dies. Kafka for children? Yes! The questions arising from Kafka’s story appear at all times, in every place of our lives, and pose themselves in every family, every society: How do we deal with the incomprehensible, with disturbance, with the foreign? In the play, the audience sits right in the middle of the action and experiences the story firsthand. "Käfer" addresses themes such as exclusion, loneliness, and death. These themes accompany both adults and children and adolescents in different facets and life contexts. Therefore, we do not want to taboo them but make them openly accessible in theater.
Theater Sgaramusch aims in "Käfer" not at sadness but at empathy, not at despair but at possibilities. The play shows that change is not threatening but enriching. Director: Corsin Gaudenz
