present their new novels "Open Sky" and "The Devil's Book" Jonas Eika and Asta Olivia Nordenhof are two of the most exciting voices in contemporary Danish literature. Their texts combine social critique with aesthetic standards and challenge us in the best way. They will present their novels one after the other. In 1990, 159 people died in a fire on a passenger ferry in Skagerrak. Based on the real case, Asta Olivia Nordenhof develops an artistically condensed critique of capitalism in her "Scandinavian Star" series. In the second volume, "The Devil's Book" (Claassen; translation: Ursel Allenstein), the narrator spends two weeks in a stranger's London apartment and writes down her past: years earlier, she sold herself to T., who offered her a suitcase full of money for control over her body. Jonas Eika's "Open Sky" (Hanser Berlin; translation: Ursel Allenstein and Stefan Pluschkat) is a wild, sensual, and poetic genre hybrid about female solidarity in the 13th century. In a Beguine house, Ida lives independently with other religious women. She has visions that demand her to implement God's plans for humanity. When the church threatens this utopian way of life, Ida gradually and reluctantly becomes a prophetess, while also trying to give herself to her loved ones.
