‘Where Light Settles’ is the third album by composer, bandleader, and saxophonist Jasmine Myra. It will be released on May 15th by Gondwana Records and is a cohesive artistic statement from one of the most distinctive and confident voices in the British music scene – also a clear evolution of the critically acclaimed albums Horizons (2022) and Rising (2024). The first single is ‘Reflections’, a piece that is both expansive and intimate, captivating. As a perfect introduction to the album, it combines folk influences with her characteristic sound, while elegant string arrangements add a new dimension to her music. She says about the single:
‘Reflections’ captures the overall sound and energy of this album. Like other tracks on the album, this one also has a folk influence, combined with my usual sound. I also wrote for strings for the first time here, which excited me very much. I wanted them to play a more prominent role compared to my previous releases. I especially love the string melodies in this piece and the depth they create.
‘Where Light Settles’ gathers nine beautiful and powerfully grounded compositions that reflect Jasmine Myra’s thoughts on life, growth, and development – driven by her vision of duality. ‘It’s these bittersweet moments that are heartbreaking but so important. Looking forward and trying to understand life,’ she says. ‘Pain is inevitable, and you will always face challenges. But without them, you don’t grow and you don’t get to know yourself or the world around you. Duality lies in growth and emerging stronger from it. I had this concept from the very beginning.’
Jasmine Myra’s multifaceted musical world was created within five days at The Nave Studios in her hometown of Leeds and was recorded live there with her long-standing ensemble. Besides the entire composition, ‘Where Light Settles’ is also her first self-produced release, with Matthew Halsall from Gondwana Records as co-producer. The album’s colorful sound palette is shaped by Myra’s long-standing affinity for film music and cinematic composition.
Additionally, a 15-piece ensemble led by Ozzy Moysey, bandleader of the Leeds-based Ancient Infinity Orchestra (also on Gondwana Records), contributes, allowing Myra to focus entirely on the tenderness and emotional depth of her alto saxophone lines. Her playing is intentionally embedded in the arrangements and features precisely composed parts for strings, piano, flute, guitar, vibraphone, harp, as well as tenor saxophone, double bass, drums, and percussion. The result is a work that is both expansive and intimate, rich in detail and emotional clarity – further proof that Jasmine Myra is among the most unique and exciting young composers and instrumentalists in Great Britain. Jasmine Myra will perform at Halle 424 on October 10, 2026.
