INSGEHEIM – An evening concert with Reto Bieri and the CAMERATA BERN

Description

Late Romantic | Fleeting | Spaces of Sound What sounds vanishes again in the very same moment. «INSGEHEIM» is a poetic concert evening by Zug-based clarinetist Reto Bieri and CAMERATA BERN, which conceives of music not as a statement but as a threshold—between sound and noise, memory and the present, appearance and disappearance. Inspired by Robert Walser’s subtle ambiguity, the evening directs the listener’s attention away from the fixable and toward the process of creation itself. The musical material draws from a multifaceted repertoire that is not quoted but transformed: Bruckner’s expansive adagios, Shostakovich’s encrypted D-S-C-H structures, Pärt’s reduced sound spaces, Kancheli’s fragile mementos, Scelsi’s vocal condensations, Hartmann’s expressive breaks. These are complemented by a specially developed sound archive of barely perceptible phenomena—breaths, footsteps, distant voices—through which Reto Bieris’s clarinet weaves as a wandering voice. The CAMERATA BERN oscillates between collective and individual voice, while Janiv Oron’s electronics function as an invisible architecture. Visual projections by Tabea Rothfuchs and a fog-light concept by Markus Güdel divide the space into zones of visibility and disappearance. Four «fields of fog» structure the evening—from the tentative emergence of the first sound to its dissolution into pure reverberation. Not a crescendo, but a breath.
