Description

Program - Organ Trio Sonata in C major (BWV 529) - Organ Trio Sonata in E-flat major (BWV 525) - various choral arrangements, improvised preludes, and interludes. To draw out the various nuances of chorales and to perform them "in various ways" – from simple organ arrangements to elaborate choral cantatas – was not only a musical craft for Johann Sebastian Bach but also a heartfelt concern. It was his life's mission to make spiritual depth, comfort, and understanding tangible through music. In this, J. S. Bach revealed himself as an incredible musical thinker, a spiritual architect, and a sonic visionary: using the form of the chorale as a foundation, he created entire spiritual landscapes, theological reflections, and emotional spaces. Yet even Bach was not infallible or complete: of the 164 planned choral arrangements in the Orgelbüchlein, 119 remained unfinished – perhaps a poignant testament to the almost superhuman dimension of his undertaking. This program is a tribute to Bach's work and at the same time an approach to it. It follows the church year – from Advent and Christmas through Passion, Easter to Pentecost – and brings Bach's chorales to life in their various forms: as meditative organ pieces, in trio sonatas, and in ensemble sound.
