Im Fluss

Description

«Im Fluss» focuses on Greece and connects works from the 20th and 21st centuries. The focus is on Iannis Xenakis and Nikos Skalkottas, who explore new sonic and structural orders beyond traditional forms in different ways.
In Xenakis’ «Dhipli Zyia» (1951) for violin and cello, density, friction, and movement determine the musical events. Also in «Ikhoor» (1978) for string trio, the instruments become mobile sound fields characterized by glissandi, changing articulations, and energy flows. Skalkottas combines influences of the Second Viennese School with rhythmic clarity and a unique chamber music language in his duo for violin and viola (1938) and the String Trio No. 2 (1935).
Georges Aperghis’ «Faux Mouvement» (1995) centers on movement and perception, playing with shifts and expectations. A new commissioned work by the Greek composer Eleni Ralli, based in Basel, brings this exploration into the present and adds a contemporary perspective. Participants and additional information:

The concert «Im Fluss» takes place at Gare du Nord in Basel and highlights the musical currents of Greece from the 20th and 21st centuries. Both classical works and contemporary compositions are performed, opening new sonic perspectives.
