Set 1 Charles Kwong (composition and electronics) Sharon Shan (theremin) Set 2 Aya Metwalli (composition and voice) Magda Mayas (prepared piano) Julian Sartorius (percussion) Curator: Léo Collin This evening is dedicated to two artists living in Switzerland whose practice has been shaped by leaving their home country. Living in another place can sometimes allow for a metamorphosis and a certain creative freedom. It also means shifting reference points, changing perceptions, and opening unexpected spaces for artistic creation. Without a network and left to their own devices, our ways of perceiving and producing become, in a sense, free from expectations. One frees oneself from established techniques, external expectations, or even one's own artistic image. The invited composers and performers Charles Kwong and Aya Metwalli embody this movement in a special way. Their current work departs from their previous practices. In Switzerland, they have found a necessary distance to experiment, deconstruct, and reinvent their artistic languages. Throughout this evening, they will present open, hybrid, and constantly evolving forms together with friends and close companions. In the hope that they can continue to stay in Switzerland in the future to inspire us further.
