Description

Helene Bossert was a dialect poetess and radio woman who lived in the Basel region in the 20th century. With her unmistakable way of reciting texts, she captivated a large audience long before the term "Spoken Word" existed. However, after a trip to Russia during the Cold War, she was denounced as a communist traitor. She lost her job at the radio, readings were canceled, and she was ostracized in her village. Only decades later did she receive public recognition again. Her literary work, however, largely fell into obscurity. Seraina Clark, singer-songwriter and herself raised in the Basel region, came across poems by Helene Bossert last year. Immediately touched, she heard melodies in them and began to set her poems to music. This resulted in an entire concert program blending New Folk Music, Chanson, and Folk, together with the experienced musician Simon Dettwiler on the Schwyzerörgeli. "Hoi Leni!" offers the audience an encounter with Helene Bossert as a poetess and as a person. Between the songs, there are background stories about Bossert's life and work, as well as the musical settings, complemented by folk music and natural yodeling from the region. This event takes place on the stage in the attic (4th floor).
