Caves in Limestone and Other Karst Phenomena

Description

The Ebni south of the town of Laufenburg is a typical karst area. During the excursion, you will learn how this landscape was formed, what processes underlie the karstification, and how caves can form.
Along the way, you will discover typical karst phenomena such as sinkholes and a stream swallow hole. Learn from the expert how to read the landscape as a geologist and what it reveals about its formation history. The highlight of the excursion is a visit to a tectonic cave. Equipped with a headlamp and a bicycle helmet, you will venture into the depths of the mountain. The entrance seems narrow, but with the right introduction and guidance from the landscape guide, you will find your way inside. The cave will be explored in small groups. A few parking spaces are available at the Waldhaus Ebni. We recommend traveling by public transport.

General Information

The excursion takes you through the karst area of Ebni near Laufenburg and offers insights into the formation of sinkholes and caves. Led by experienced landscape guides, participants will learn about geological processes and phenomena. The event takes place in all weather conditions, except in extreme conditions.
