Musical Direction: Bernhard Volk The Symphonic Wind Orchestra Norderstedt (SBN) invites you to its autumn matinee in the Great Hall of the Laeiszhalle. Under the motto "Sounds like Joy," the approximately 75 musicians under the direction of Bernhard Volk present a program full of musical joy, technical brilliance, and emotional soundscapes. A concert that shows how diverse and captivating modern symphonic wind music can be. The focus is on three works that make the concert motto tangible in very different ways: David R. Gillingham's "With Heart and Voice" combines impressive sound richness with great emotional depth and touches with its warm, expressive tone language. Alfred Reed's "Armenian Dances – Part I" brings Armenian folk music's colors and rhythms to life and unfolds an exhilarating musical joy that delights both orchestra and audience alike. With "Loire – The Wild River" by Alberto Piña, a piece that was premiered in France this summer, is performed. On the recommendation of the composer, the SBN now brings this musical homage to the last wild river of Europe to Germany for the first time. The Symphonic Wind Orchestra Norderstedt stands for precise ensemble playing and a carefully selected repertoire. That this mix excites was proven recently by the SBN at the German Orchestra Competition 2025 in Mainz and Wiesbaden: in the highest level, the ensemble achieved an excellent fourth place and is thus officially among the top of German amateur wind orchestras.
