Description

«The sense of justice made him a robber and murderer.» This is how Heinrich von Kleist tells it in his eponymous novella about the horse dealer Michael Kohlhaas, who, after suffering injustice, seeks bloody revenge. His revenge campaign is still an example and instruction for action two hundred years later for Michaela Kohlhaas, a deputy cemetery administrator. But where Michael Kohlhaas murders and plunders, she primarily acts with words: with sharpness, exaggeration, sabotage, and show. Without informing anyone, she never returns to her workplace or her apartment. Like a homeless person, she wanders through the streets, demonstrating a life of freedom and self-determination – and thus provokes. She is a scolder, a stinker, a tender one, who must realize: it is disadvantageous to be a woman, and it is disadvantageous to resist.
Heike Geißler (*1977, Riesa) is an author. Recently, she was Dorothea Schlegel Artist-in-Residence at FU Berlin and received the Klopstock Prize for new literature, the Heinrich Böll Prize, and the Bavarian Book Prize.
