The play questions clichés, rethinks the familiar characters, and opens a sensual journey between city and mountain worlds for the audience. The inclusive moments of the original are central. “Heidi” tells of freedom, friendship, and the search for happiness. The production picks up fundamental relationship experiences and translates them into audiovisual, sensual moments. Electronic sounds meet instruments like zither or bells, and familiar children's melodies pair with field recordings. Because the mountain world is not only idyllic. And because Johanna Spyri was born 200 years ago. **Theater Frei_Raum tells the story of Heidi. Why?**
“Because Heidi's longing lives on in many stories. Because I like playing the nasty roles like Fräulein Rottenmeier (because in real life I am so nice). Because Heidi deserves to be rethought and illuminated. Because mindful living is also relevant for us. Because the rustling and waving in the fir trees can be everything. Because Heidi has such great joy in the smallest things, as if she won a million. Because the mountain world is not only idyllic. Because I like to complain all day like Schneehöppli – totally annoying. Mmh. Mmh. Capuns. Because Heidi is so together and lonely. Because everyone thinks they know Heidi. Since 2009, the inclusive theater collective Frei_Raum has been realizing productions in the field of performing arts: stage productions, installations, performances “on the road,” audio and show formats. The main venue and thus the artistic home has been the inclusive cultural venue Die Heitere Fahne in Wabern near Bern since 2014. The artistic interest is in the creative potential and exploring non-normative perspectives and stage languages. With the power of inclusive theater, Frei_Raum advocates for an open and diverse society as well as for the cultural participation of people regardless of their individual starting points.
