An Aged Person in the Bloom of Decay Hans Gerzlich is appalled when he suddenly realizes that he was born in the same year as... old people. During the commercial breaks of his favorite show, no more seductive aftershaves and fast sports cars are offered, but Granufink, Voltaren, and heat patches. Outside 50, inside 20, he still wonders when life will finally begin. But instead, the personal pension information is already fluttering into the house again, and his calculations show that at a retirement age of 67, he could live quite comfortably for eleven days. He would therefore welcome an increase in the bottle deposit. But he also thinks about suppressing his own death. About missed opportunities, increasing serenity, what a new age ethics should look like, where economic efficiency plays a role but not the first violin, and which language he should learn best to communicate later with his caregiver.
