Description
How was the Bern Deaf Sports Club founded, what decisive resolutions were made at the Milan Congress of 1880, what are the Deaflympics, and what political efforts exist for the recognition of sign language? The tour narrates the history of Bern's deaf community: from the first schools for deaf children and barriers to education and training, through clubs and sports as places of community, to current political engagements for equal rights and visibility. Difficult chapters are also addressed, such as the ban on sign language and its lingering effects. A bilingual tour in sign language (DSGS) and German spoken language, developed and performed jointly by deaf and hearing persons.
