Hamlet doubts life. He misses his father and tries to trace the causes of his death. Hamlet's mother Gertrud is overwhelmed. She is newly in love with Claudius, the brother of the deceased king. The fate of the young man who loses his father and has to reclaim his place in society is not just a story from past centuries. With only two actors, a musician, seven props, and a suitcase, the international group NIE Theatre brings Shakespeare's famous play to the stage in a humorous, fast, and accessible way. The family drama about revenge, justice, and moral dilemmas is reinterpreted. In this inventive production, Shakespeare's language world is combined with contemporary language, an original soundtrack, live music, and sound effects. NIE – New International Encounter was founded in 2001 and is a production venue for plays aimed at all generations. The projects are characterized by a mix of physical theater, multiple languages, live music, socially relevant stories, and a European ensemble. NIE Theatre is based in Asker (Norway), Prague (Czech Republic), and Cambridge (United Kingdom). The first three plays developed by the group in the Czech Republic were awarded numerous prizes and performed worldwide. They continue to tour as the "European Narratives Trilogy." Since then, NIE has created new plays in co-production with venues and theater groups across Europe. NIE Theatre performed at Theater Chur in 2023 with "The girl with the ugly face," in 2024 with "We come from far, far away," and in 2025 with "The Song of Lost Treasures."
