Description
“We can't save the world? Yes, who else?” It's not a traditional cabaret that Hagen Rether serves his audience, but rather an associative game, an invitation to think along. The cabaret artist refuses to reduce complex contexts and societal as well as political absurdities to mere punchlines. Also, blaming scapegoats is not his thing, because ultimately the responsibility does not lie solely with “those above”. In great detail, Rether links current events with forgotten ones, the near with the distant, questions, denies, doubts. He thoroughly shakes up beliefs, exposes so-called factual constraints as collective fictions to laughter. With surprising comparisons, he entices the audience to change perspective – to a different view of the world, the future, the mirror, even facing uncomfortable truths. And he calls on us to free ourselves from our often instrumentalized fear and anger. Rether's LOVE is tragic, funny, painful, contagious: The constantly evolving program with the same title causes lasting dissatisfaction with simple explanations and encourages independent thinking and action. Up to three and a half hours, the cabaret artist passionately advocates for enlightenment and compassion, against double standards and consumerist complacency: Change is possible – if we want.
