Description
Thierry Malandain, Artistic Director & Choreographer Vivaldi's "Four Seasons" is probably one of the most listened to works ever. Everyone knows it – perhaps even too well. This evening addresses exactly that: what happens when such a piece is re-examined? The Malandain Ballet Biarritz provides the answer. For "Les Saisons," Thierry Malandain combines Vivaldi with a lesser-known version by his contemporary Giovanni Antonio Guido. This shifts the focus: away from mere recognition, towards structure, rhythm, and contrast – visualized by an ensemble that simply excites fans of neoclassical ballet. Malandain Ballet Biarritz was founded in 1988. With around 100 performances annually and over 80,000 spectators at home and on international tours, it is one of Europe's most viewed companies. The 22 dancers of the ensemble are all classically trained but move with a direct, natural, and thus contemporary energy. With this energy, the ensemble translates Vivaldi's and Guido's baroque music into a highly aesthetic, powerful, contemporary form and into poetic fantasy. Duration: 60 minutes, no intermission
