Description

Helen is a college lecturer in Cambridge and is considering a position at an institute abroad when her beloved father unexpectedly dies. The award-winning photographer Alisdair Macdonald had instilled a love of nature in his daughter. In her grief, Helen often sinks into memories of her time with him. Eventually, she decides to train a goshawk — knowing that these magnificent birds of prey are extremely difficult to tame. She increasingly loses herself in the attempt to gain the trust of her female goshawk, which she names Mabel. To the concern of her family and her friend, she neglects her profession and her life. Based on Helen Macdonald's autobiographical bestseller "H is for Hawk" (German: "H wie Habicht"), the film adaptation tells of grief, depression, and the special relationship between humans and animals. With magnificent animal footage, British director Philippa Lowthorpe creates a moving, excellently acted drama, in which Claire Foy convinces especially in the lead role.
