Wear your best talisman or white Nike sneakers and come to the theater to learn how to start your own sect. “The word ‘sect’ already carries a negative connotation, let’s rather use the neutral term ‘new religious movement’.” What will you do when someone comes to you with problems? Will you recruit them into your ballet troupe? Or sell them your book? Will you give them a white robe? Or simply explain that they won’t be suffering for long because the end of the world is near? Harsh, right? “I lost my faith and I would like to find something more. Something that transcends me.” In creating the performance, we explored various types of new religious movements and the lifestyle of their members. Their customs, rituals, beliefs, and strict hierarchy. What drives often educated and successful people to abandon everything they have and devote themselves entirely to a new life within a sect? What do the leaders of these movements gain? Why do they do it? Of course, it seems that the reasons are ultimately much more materialistic than spiritual. But what can you do?
