Description

You will immerse yourself in the history of the former school through our tours, which we also want to view from queer perspectives on persecution, resistance, and remembrance. The routes connect biographical traces, architectural testimonies, and current debates about how memorial sites can be used and further developed today. What does it mean to commemorate this place – and how can queer communities forge bonds here for the present and the future? Tour 1: Bullenhuser Damm Memorial The permanent exhibition (in German and English) provides information about the site as a school and as an external camp of Neuengamme concentration camp, about medical experiments, victims, murders, perpetrators, and how the crime was dealt with after 1945. The tour is conducted in English and is not accessible for wheelchair users. Tour 1 will be interpreted in German Sign Language. Tour 2: project klinke klinke is a project of the Hallo: Association for the Promotion of Space-Opening Culture e. V. and involves the careful repurposing and restoration of the former school at Bullenhuser Damm in Hamburg's east. The aim is to create a community-based, self-organized work and learning space. The tour is conducted in German and is not accessible for wheelchair users.
