Description
Discover the world of Gabriela Feldmann, Brigitte Hunziker, and Eugen Perez at the Bernapark Museum Gallery, Kunstraum Thomas Demarmels from October 21 to December 11, 2026. Photographer Gabriela Feldmann, wood collector Brigitte Hunziker, and photographer Eugen Perez share a love for nature. Gabriela Feldmann's plant and flower portraits have a very personal character. The collected wood pieces by Brigitte Hunziker transform into wooden beings without losing their character. Eugen Perez's photographs capture the moment, knowing it will never be the same again. Gabriela Feldmann lives and works in Bern. One of her professional pillars was photography for over 20 years. Artistic background · 1991-1993 Photography class at the Higher School of Design in Zurich · 1994-1995 Master class in Photography at the Higher Federal Graphic Institute (HGBLuVA) in Vienna · 1996-2007 Freelance photographer for various publications · 1999-2007 Part-time photography studio for portrait shots in Bern. Besides professional photography, she has always had a passion for photo walks – especially in nature, but also in big cities, in so-called 'unplaces' or in no-man's land somewhere in between. It's about capturing moods and moments that evoke associations or memories. Since 2014, she mainly photographs with the 'inner eye' or while traveling with her phone, without materializing the images afterward. She long dreamed of capturing fleeting moments with a blink of an eye and printing them on photo paper – completely without cumbersome equipment and elaborate post-processing. Today, this idea is no longer so far-fetched and, in the context of current developments, somewhat frightening. Nevertheless, she is curious about how photography as a medium and art form will develop further. The exhibition at Bernapark shows a cross-section of the years 2010 to 2013 as well as images from the not yet completed photo series «Plant Portraits». Brigitte Hunziker Aargau native - Zurich native - Bernese Short biography She has had many professions in her life, leading her into various fields of activity. As a screen printer, she ran a small print shop in Zurich. She further trained as a craft teacher at the Zurich School of Design. Later, she studied social work at Bern University of Applied Sciences and ZPSA in Berlin. She worked for many years as a social worker and coach alongside her artistic pursuits. Only now, in retirement, does she dedicate a lot of time to her wooden collection. For several years, she has also been sketching with Urbansketchers Bern. From the collection of a wood collector, wooden beings are created. She has always collected wood or stones. Over time, her collecting has become more systematic, and her collection can be categorized into themes such as branch tips/branch beginnings, views through, knobs or tubers, overgrowths after injuries, forks, twists, etc. As a child, she received a pocket knife, and that was when she started working on the woods. She still proceeds the same way today: if she finds suitable wood, she often starts carving on-site and then decides whether it will join her collection. If the object is too large, she goes back to the site with a backpack, saw, sack trolley, rubber band, and string. As part of the natural cycle, the found wood is usually already in the process of decomposition, i.e., weather, animals, and fungi have already begun transformation. It is a special process until a piece of wood shows its true nature, and she finds an answer to it.
