Description
The Kunsthaus Langenthal presents the first institutional solo exhibition in Switzerland of the painter Gritli Faulhaber (*1990 in Freiburg i. Br., lives in Zurich). For the first time, her most important ongoing groups of works from recent years are shown together. Faulhaber's large-format collage paintings are several paintings in one, a merging of image templates from (female) art history, but also from fashion or internet pop cultures, which she appropriates painterly and makes newly experienceable. A counterpart to this is "Debutante," a series of small-format monochrome pigment paintings, as well as the abstract dot paintings of the series "Militant Joy." In the latter, she refers to the concept of "Crip Time" by Alison Kafer. It is about how dealing with time must be different for chronically ill people, beyond efficiency logic and linear rhythms. Faulhaber's first monographic publication with a text by Geraldine Tedder and a conversation between the artist and the curators Raffael Dörig and Marius Quiblier is published for the exhibition.
