Description

An agglomeration community threatens to break apart. The municipal council agrees: The polarization has reached proportions that are no longer sustainable. A city-country trench runs right through the community, along with a one-armed trench, a left-right trench, a divide between long-time residents and newcomers, between dairy farmers and vegans. Help is needed: The urban communication agency NOW is called into the multi-purpose hall to level these trenches. From the senior creative director to interns, the four employees throw themselves into the work. They discuss filter bubbles, radicalization, and their influence on our coexistence, accompanied by the agency's own band, which musically comments on the process. But as the discussions become more intense, the agency employees argue among themselves. Béla Rothenbühler (Swiss Literature Prize Winner 2025) devised a fast-paced, darkly humorous, and absurd parable: "Grabenland" tells of people who argue about the fragmentation of the world — with the hope that all the opinions and dissonances might still form a choir: dissonant, but lively.
