The legendary story of Girl in Blue comes to life again on the theater stage, made famous by the 1940 film directed by Otakar Vávra, featuring the beloved Oldřich Nový and Lída Baarová, who was awarded the National Film Acting Award for her role as Countess Blanka. A well-to-do bachelor, notary in Lučín, Dr. Jan Karas, successfully defends himself against the traps of marriage-minded ladies around him. He is a well-situated man who much prefers to engage with books, reincarnation, and supernatural forces than with marriage. However, the ladies of Lučín society see it differently. One would like to win his heart – and perhaps also his wealth, while another would prefer to marry off her daughter Slávinka to him. When Karas gazes at the mysterious portrait of the beautiful Countess Blanka of Blanckenberg, his friends, Dr. Pacovský and engineer Čádek, decide to play a little prank and let the Girl in Blue 'come to life.' They do not realize that this innocent game will soon spiral out of control. From a joke meant to protect Karas from love, a very real love is born. There is no shortage of comedic situations. The play, adapted and directed by the Kolín director Martin Drahovzal, is prepared by the Mareš Theater Company. The tastefully crafted set and first-republic costumes will transport us to the 1940s.
