The Baliardo family has undoubtedly produced some of the best guitar masters – inspired by their somewhat 'godfather' figure Manitas de Plata (alias Ricardo Baliardo). Diego Baliardo, a founding member of the band, still holds the trademark rights, and the group consists exclusively of family members who carry on the legacy of the Gipsy Kings. Continuing the history and tradition, all family members have grown up with the guitar – barely able to hold it, they start playing alongside their relatives. Diego was also the driving force behind the collective decision to make Gipsy culture known worldwide – a journey that began in 1978 when none other than the most famous resident of Saint-Tropez, Brigitte Bardot, invited them to play at a private party (or rather, to ignite a musical fireworks display). Numerous engagements followed on the then-wild Côte d’Azur, where they quickly became favorites of billionaires and international stars. Mainstream success was not long in coming: Timeless songs like 'Bamboleo' conquered the charts worldwide, broke boundaries, and earned them a Gold Record in the United States as the first Gipsy group ever. In their over 40-year career, they landed many more hits like 'Djobi Djoba' or 'Baila Me' as well as their unique Gipsy versions of classics like 'Volare', 'Hotel California', and Sinatra's evergreen 'A mi manera'.
