Program: Ludwig van Beethoven (1770 – 1827): Violin Concerto in D major, op. 61 Antonín Dvořák (1841 – 1904): Symphony No. 7 in D minor, op. 70 He became overnight known as a substitute for Ludwig van Beethoven's Violin Concerto. Now, the Serbian violinist Nemanja Radulović is tackling the concerto again – this summit of classical music, which at the time was met with some disagreement: some found it beautiful, but it was considered too long, too fragmented, too exhausting. Such judgments are common with Beethoven, but only at the beginning: he always manages to educate his audience and ultimately inspire them. Dvořák finds it easier with his Symphony No. 7. A commission from London gives him hope, 'to move the whole world, and God grant that it will be so!' And it will be. The Londoners are captivated, and Dvořák is elated: 'I cannot say how much the English honor me! Everywhere I am written about, and people say I am the lion in London.' Not bad, this comparison with the king of animals. Among Dvořák's nine symphonies, the seventh is clearly the most passionate, the most dramatic.
