Description

On Ash Wednesday, Gidio Hosestoss, who suffocated miserably on a stolen treat, is laid out as a straw puppet on a wagon and led to his funeral in a carnival procession. The mourning bereaved, including the mother Eulalia Fadehäx, née Chuefödle, sit on ladder wagons with huge masked heads and wipe their eyes with grief. Events of the year are often depicted on other floats. Two of the older pupils give a humorous farewell sermon as the Gidio pastor and Mesmer, glossing over school events and village squabbles. Route: Ebnet-Buchenstrasse-Oberdorfstrasse-Platz-Bahnhofstrasse-Bachstrasse-Buchenstrasse-Ebnet. Afterwards, the children's masked ball takes place in the Chälblihalle for all little carnival lovers. On the evening of Ash Wednesday, the people of Herisau come together for the monster concert of the Guggen. Festive catering at the Chälblihalle and Guggenmusik ensure colorful hustle and bustle and an atmospheric evening. The road along the route is closed from approx. 15.00 - 17.00 hrs.
