Description

The Schauspielhaus Zürich has a shimmering history. Significantly, it was shaped by those German artists who sought refuge in Zurich during the 1930s and 40s. And by courageous individuals like the then director Ferdinand Rieser and dramaturg Kurt Hirschfeld, who brought them to the Schauspielhaus — often under very difficult circumstances and against the resistance of significant parts of the city society. KUNST ALS EXIL is dedicated to their memory, biographies, and works. But also to their descendants: the artists who live and work in Swiss exile today. To what extent does the experience of exile connect across generations? And how does it influence artistic creation? "OUR BELONGING AS ARTISTS LIES IN OUR NON-BELONGING," a conversation with ensemble member Mouataz Alshaltou. To the interview "NOT WELCOME," a conversation with Brecht researcher Werner Wüthrich.
