Theater HORA and Christoph Marthaler test the present When Theater HORA was founded in Zurich in 1993, an evening directed by Christoph Marthaler titled ‹Murx den Europäer!› was performed for the first time on the (people's) stage in Berlin. A coincidence? Or the famous law of meaningful simultaneity? One way or another, at the same moment, two artistic exceptionalities with Zurich roots and European appeal premiered. 33 years later, the paths of the anniversary celebrants with a numerological coincidence cross at Theater Basel for the first time. Apparently, the moment has come to find out what connects these stubborn theater makers. Marthaler and Theater HORA are going all out, developing a business idea and establishing a ‹Society with Special Dedication (GmbH)› for this purpose. Perhaps this abbreviation hides other meanings; the shareholders remain reticent so far. Less mysterious, however, is the task that all involved have set themselves: they want to test the present! The things of the present, the ideas of the present, the state of the people who are in this present. No small undertaking. But who else should do it but this brand-new society with special dedication?
