Artillery Fort Faulensee Tours

Description

During World War II, the Artillery Fort Faulensee was built to block the Kandergraben near Einigen. The fort, which was put into operation in 1942, is unique among fortress constructions. Special is the 160-meter-long connecting tunnel.

In the war year 1941, the fort was constructed in a record time of about six months in shell construction. Subsequently, technical installations and weapon installations were carried out so that the fort could be handed over to the troops ready for use by mid-1942. Until the completion of the fort, it was planned that a mobile artillery battery would be deployed at the fort's location in the event of a corresponding threat.

During the Cold War, the secret facility was an important base for the operational blocking mission.

The rapid development of weapon systems, but also the changed threat, were the reasons why the object was decommissioned after more than 50 years of service at the end of 1993. Since 2001, the interesting fort, which is unique as a building type, can be visited as a historical and cultural testimony of national significance.
