In the years 1941/42, the Hondrich fortress, located in the upper part of the Hondrich hill near Spiez, was excavated (shell construction) and supplemented in 1943 (reservoir, WC, iron doors, embrasures). The facility served as the combat post of the commander of the 3rd Division, command post of the artillery chief and various heavy motor cannon units, as well as a fire control center and observation post for the surrounding batteries.

The expansion in 1953/54 into a department and regiment shooting center improved the infrastructure (artillery telephone exchange, engine room, gas lock). The conversion of the office wing, accommodation, and kitchen took place in 1957. The observation posts were no longer used. The facility served as the fire control center of Fortress Department 15 and as the command post of Fortress Regiment 21 (fire coordination) as well as until 1978 as the command post of Infantry Regiment 75. In addition to a main tunnel over 300 meters long, four double observation posts, a total of eleven radio niches, and two entrances each with an embrasure for close defense, there are offices and accommodations. The fortress is only accessible by footpath. A new exhibition shows the task of the former artillery observation.
