François Lindemann-Alvin Queen Sextet

Description

Sometimes there are fabulous bands, sometimes there are fabulous musicians. With this unique lineup, both are true, and one can confidently use superlatives. Each one alone would be worth a visit, but seeing all these legends together on the same stage is probably once in a lifetime and makes the jazz heart beat faster. Besides their own projects as bandleaders, most of them have been accompanying musicians of greats like Herbie Hancock, Miles Davis, Elvin Jones, Carla Bley, Woody Shaw, or Oscar Peterson. Now, trumpeter Henderson, saxophonist Bartz, trombonist Eubanks, and bassist Känzig, under the leadership of François Lindemann on piano and Alvin Queen on drums, come together for a special reunion. Together, they pay homage to the great masters John Coltrane and Miles Davis, who would celebrate their 100th birthday this year. They do not play the music of these giants but follow their example and attitude regarding inventiveness and creativity. This unique concert of living legends will be a homage to Davis’ and Coltrane’s aesthetics and to what they contributed to jazz.
