The wind now only whistles softly through the icy cold, and a meter-high blanket of snow mutes the rest of the world. In this surreal homogeneous mass, where trees, buses, and mountains differ only minimally from each other, an old stone church rises like a lighthouse out of nowhere: the Studio Cimetière.
This secluded place in the Canadian wilderness became the creative center for "Wash My Pain Away," the second studio album by
Femi Luna. The soul of these venerable rooms runs like a red thread through the structure of the twelve songs. Naturally, the natural reverb of the former church shapes the sound; but Femi Luna also plays with silence, rhythm, and deliberate gaps in her songwriting, so that words and tones find their own space. Thematically, the songs move between loss,
longing, and self-reflection, but are carried by warm tonal colors and careful instrumentation, so that when listening, one gladly immerses oneself in Femi Luna's emotional world.
