Description
The queen of Afro-Pop blends jazz and hip hop elements with cheeky Afrobeat rhythms. Fatoumata Diawara is rightly called a 'superstar of global pop' and is considered one of the most important voices in contemporary African music. She grew up between Ivory Coast and Mali and now lives between Bamako and Europe. Musically, Fatoumata Diawara combines traditional sounds of the Mandé culture with Afrobeat, blues, folk, jazz, and pop. Her distinctive guitar playing and charismatic stage presence shape her concerts. Live, it becomes even more apparent how she uniquely combines tradition and modernity. And the artist is back on tour! With a new, fourth album in hand. Her second album, Fenfo – Something to Say (3ème Bureau / Wagram Music, 2018), was nominated for a Grammy and received numerous awards. This fall/winter, Fatoumata Diawara is touring with MASSA (Nø Førmat!, 2026). The album deals with motherhood, faith, memory, and resilience, and skillfully spans both thematically and musically. As the label accurately states: "Both rooted and forward-looking."
