Description
On the anniversary year of Johann Melchior Gletle (1626 – 1683), this concert is dedicated to the Vesperpsalmen of one of the most important church composers of southern Germany in the 17th century. Gletle served for decades as the cathedral choirmaster at Augsburg Cathedral and significantly shaped the musical life during a time of religious, political, and cultural reorganization after the Thirty Years' War. His vesper music combines the rich polyphony of the Renaissance with the new, sonorous style of early Baroque and exemplifies the rich musical tradition at the southern German cathedrals. Together with the Augsburg Cathedral Boys' Choir, whose roots go back to the early history of the cathedral, this music comes alive in the place and spiritual context for which it was originally created. The concert invites to a festive evening prayer that connects a historic sound world with spiritual reflection. Soloists of the Augsburg Cathedral Boys' Choir • La Banda: • Cathedral choirmaster Stefan Steinemann, organ and direction Tickets € 39,– / 34,– / 28,– / 22,– (U30: € 10,–) Approx. 45 minutes without intermission
