The stage is black. You can hardly see the dancers – you see what they illuminate. Glowing contours drift through the space, planets pass by, a star wanders across the scene. In the next sequence, bodies dissolve, reassemble, grow into beings that have no name. Then again: a silent image. A single dancer, a single light. Cosmos is not a narrative piece in the traditional sense. Each scene has its own logic and flows into the next without a storyline dictating the order. Sometimes calm, sometimes rhythmic, sometimes floating. The principle is blacklight theater combined with contemporary dance and acrobatics – a genre that cannot be fully classified as ballet, show, or circus, and which must be seen live to understand what it means. Founded in 2008 in Rome by Anthony Heinl, an American dancer and choreographer. Since then, tours across Europe, North and South America, Asia. The ensemble includes dancers, acrobats, most of whom are proficient in multiple disciplines because Heinl's choreography demands movement competence beyond a single style. The company's signature: illusion as aesthetics. Not illusion in the magician's sense, but in the perception sense – the eye sees things that cannot be there, yet believes they are. Because dance shows of this kind rarely come to the region – the eVolution tour makes several dozen stops across Europe this season, with Singen being one of them. Because blacklight dance is a genre of its own: neither classical dance, musical, nor circus, but something that inherently does not work on TV or on the phone. Because the show is language-free and thus accessible to any audience regardless of German language skills. And because the evening is one of the few stage forms where teenagers, parents, and grandparents watch the same scene in awe – for different reasons, but at the same moment.
