“EVERGREEN CLASSICS” Broadway and Beyond Dear Audience The legendary Broadway has represented great stories, captivating music, and unforgettable songs for over a hundred years. In hardly any other musical universe do theater, film, jazz, and popular music blend so naturally. But Broadway is more than a geographical location: it is a melting pot where diverse styles, cultures, and life stories meet and shape a sound that extends far beyond stage and screen. The concert program “Evergreen Classics” - Broadway and Beyond invites you on a journey to the golden era of Broadway from the 60s to the 80s – and beyond. Alongside classics like “Summertime” and “The Man I Love” by George Gershwin, songs from Michel Legrand’s Yentl and “To Life - L'Chajim” from Jerry Bock’s Fiddler on the Roof will be performed. Yiddish songs like “Dona, Dona” and “Oyfn Pripitchik” also have their place: they recall the cultural roots of many composers of that era and tell stories of origin and longing. The repertoire is complemented by melodies that have long become part of our shared musical memory: “Over the Rainbow,” “What a Wonderful World,” “At Last,” “Autumn Leaves,” and more. Featuring Einat Betzalel, an excellent and charismatic singer well known to audiences of the L'Orchestre Festival from previous projects. With her expressive voice, stylistic versatility, and great stage presence, she has left a lasting impression. In this program, she will serve as the storyteller of the evening—and will also bring her own composition, “Confession.” The colorful arrangements were specially crafted for the L'Orchestre Festival by conductor Meinrad Koch. Their tonal diversity gives each song a special mood and opens new perspectives on familiar melodies. An evening full of memories, emotions, and timeless songs – not to be missed!
