Description

In a “Musical Lexicon” from the year 1732, it is claimed that Henrico Albicastro came from Switzerland, but there is no evidence for this – the respected violin virtuoso was, however, somewhat of an obscure character. As Captain Lieutenant Johan Hendrik van Weissenburg, he fought and fell in the War of the Spanish Succession. Gaspard Fritz, on the other hand, lived and worked in Geneva and led an extraordinarily good and quiet life. Both are outstanding composers who are now almost forgotten – which in turn opens an interesting field in the search for the roots of the own - there were also Baroque composers in Switzerland! The Freitagsakademie Bern dedicates its concert to these two unjustly so rarely performed composers, in combination with other instrumental concertos and orchestral pieces by Antonio Vivaldi, Georg Philipp Telemann, and Tomaso Albinoni.
