Angel of Destruction

Description

Four actors are waiting on a film set for the start of shooting. A remake of their big cinema success "Ghosts" is planned. But the film crew simply does not show up. After failed attempts to contact management and to take the filming into their own hands, the players realize that they can no longer leave the place. An invisible boundary seems to enclose them on the set. Thrown back on themselves, they are confronted with the imperfection of human existence: age, missed loves, envy, illness, and mortality become visible as if under a magnifying glass. The bitter question arises as to what might still be waiting for them outside. Because AI is in the process of conquering the world and seems to make no stop even at the gates of Hollywood.
Against the backdrop of this contemporary phenomenon, ANGEL OF DESTRUCTION adapts the plot of Luis Buñuel's surrealist film classic "The Exterminating Angel" (1962) for the stage. Director Jonas Bernetta and his team address the fear of loss of meaning and subjectivity when everything that makes a person is replaced by AI. Accompanied throughout by a live camera, the theater stage becomes a film set, the performance a live film.
The high-caliber cast includes, among others, Vera Bommer, who was recently seen on our stage in FISCHER FRITZ and MYTHOS, as well as Paul Behren, who is currently shining in the title role of Frank Castorf's "Hamlet" at the Hamburg Schauspielhaus.
