E. F. Burian: Vojna

Description

Emil František Burian (1904–1957) is one of the most remarkable Czech authors of his generation. He exemplifies avant-garde tendencies in the interwar period, was a member of Devětsil, collaborated with the Liberated Theatre, and founded the DADA and D34 theatres. The folk play with songs Vojna from 1935 is another testament to Burian's ability to seek new forms of the musical-dramatic genre. In his pursuit of so-called synthetic theatre, he utilized his experiences with voice bands, dance, chamber ensembles, folk music, and jazz. This interpretatively demanding work will be presented in its 1935 version, and it should be noted that its anti-war message is very relevant today.
