Their sound is exactly the blend of 60s R’n’B, funk, soul, and rock’n’roll that was still best mixed in Detroit. D/troit are actually Danes, although bandleader and singer Toke Bo Nisted sounds as if he was already making the clubs of Motor City unsafe back in the day. The current album by D/troit is titled “Heavy” and begins with a song of the same name, which immediately draws you into this lively, historically rich sound world. True to the title, the sound is dominated by a weightier, hip-hop inspired feeling, served with a confident and light-footed twist of soul and funk on themes like hope, love, and the collective challenges we all face.
