Description

Already in 15 BC, an important Alpine route passed through the valley, connecting North and South over the Septimer Pass. Caravans, merchants, and pilgrims brought prosperity, goods, and stories to the region. With the expansion of transportation routes and the use of carriages, Churwalden gained further importance: large hay quantities had to be prepared for over 800 carriage horses. The emerging health tourism, the healthy Alpine air, and regional specialties from the area are known beyond the region.
