Description

Dom Juan seduces, claims, flees, consumes without looking back, driven by an unlimited desire. He embodies "the Modern Man": the one who founded the Enlightenment as much as the selfish monster who is now experiencing his twilight. Beside him, Sganarelle observes, doubts, resists, compromises himself, caught in the orbit of a master he cannot leave. With the company L’outil de la ressemblance, Robert Sandoz transposes the plot into a universe inspired by the Mexican Day of the Dead, where the living and the dead coexist without borders. Swords turned into sawed-off cannons and pawnbrokers teaming up with cartels: the staging plays with temporal references and drags the myth into a contemporary, brutal, and incandescent world. Evoking the irreverent breath of the Nouvelle Vague and the disillusioned dreaminess of Fellini's Casanova, this fresco turned chorus questions our contradictions, fascinations, and compromises to assert our vital need for humanism.
