Description
«Yesterday there were no longer any boundaries between me and the world, total dissolution in the intoxication of signs, now I was completely isolated from everything around me.» Intoxication, party, megalomaniac fantasies of a superstar, then the fall into the abyss, the gray emptiness, nothingness. Cautious beginning, perceived normality. And once again, the mania takes off. It is replaced by the next crashing, self-erasing depression. The rhythm of a disease that dictates the rhythm of a life. How fragile one's own identity of a wounded self can be, describes Thomas Melle in his merciless and deeply human novel «Die Welt im Rücken». He tells with radical openness, poetry, and humor about his life with bipolar disorder and the attempt not to lose himself between manic euphoria and depressive emptiness. Ensemble member Carina Thurner dedicates herself to this powerful vocal score with playful tenderness. Together with the ensemble, she embarks on a musical search for the states between loss of control and megalomania and the transitions between paranoia and a so-called normality. «Die Welt im Rücken» is an invitation to reflect on mental health, vulnerability, and humanity in a foreign world. Because stories help to know that you are not alone.
